With a strong emphasis on comfort, functionality and a very unique design, the founders of Formex took to the drawing boards in 1998. By the end of 1999, the first FORMEX watch was born and opened the door for a new generation of timepieces. Inspired by the engineering and mechanics of high performance racing cars and bikes, it featured the brand’s signature patented Case Suspension System, which led to a more robust and comfortable watch. The brand name is a combination of the two French words “forme extrème”, extreme shape. In the following decade, FORMEX launched various collections of modern timepieces and became widely recognized among aficionados of extraordinarily designed sports watches.
In October 2016, FORMEX completely opted out of brick and mortar sales, going down the direct and online only route. Being detached from any retailer and selling exclusively on the Online Shop, FORMEX is no longer bound to the conventional, exorbitant sales margins applied in the watch industry and is now in direct contact with its customer in all stages of buying and owning a watch. The direct to consumer model allows us to create exactly the consumer experience we want our customers to have, and gives the customers all the attention they deserve before and after having bought a watch. The new FORMEX models are infused with our dedication for Speed, Precision, Mechanics and Adrenaline – Passions shared with a team of young athletes pursuing their dream to be the best at what they do. Besides being the brand’s face, CEO Raphael Granito embodies FORMEX’s passions for speed, precision and adrenaline, as a watch aficionado, downhill skater, car racer, snowboarder, freediver, surfer, skydiver und paraglider. From an early age, he spent his school holidays working in his father’s watch component company, Dexel SA, learning the conception, development and production of elaborate parts in the high-end watch sector, for some of the most renowned brands in the industry. With a team of likeminded and dedicated people, he transitioned the successful brand into the new age of online business, and is able to offer an unmatched value proposition and an unheard of service level. Whatever the future brings, one thing remains the same: we keep practicing what we preach. Meet Raphael and Team FORMEX in our Showroom.
“Between you and us” means that from us, manufacturing your watch, to you wearing it, there is no longer anyone between you and us. You no longer pay the retailer for selling you the watch, but solely us for making it for you. By offering our watches exclusively on our Online Store and directly to you, we were able to cut prices by almost half from store prices, without having to compromise on quality nor technical features.
We refrain from expensive marketing campaigns or celebrity endorsements and invest the money where it matters the most: the product development and engineering, the materials and the craftsmanship.
Between you and us also means, that you are in direct contact with us, the manufacturer of your watch – be it for consultation, a return or an exchange, a service or a repair – FORMEX is your direct and personal point of contact.
It is common practice in the watch industry to multiply the cost of making a watch by 6-10 times so every player in the retail chain can get a cut. At Formex, we don’t need to satisfy any retailers and calculate a factor of 2.5 to 3, to allow us to cover all expenses and get a fair margin that enables us to continue developing and manufacturing great watches.
… well, that was until now – because we developed an App for your smartphone that lets you project a very realistic looking FORMEX watch on your wrist. You can try-on all models and lines, get a feel of size and look at your wrist and change straps as you please. Here’s how it works:
All our watches come with a 30-day money back guarantee. If for any reason you think it’s not the right fit, you can return your watch free of charge. If you contact us before returning or exchanging your watch, we’ll even have your shipping expenses covered.
All watch prices already include free shipping worldwide. As soon as we have processed your order, you will receive a tracking number to follow your package. Expect your watch within 2 business days (Europe) respectively 2-3 business days for overseas orders.
The courier dropping of your Formex will not hand you a customs and sales tax bill nor ask you to pay them cash, as we have already taken care of that with our shipping partners. The prices you see on our Online Shop is the price you pay – no exceptions and no hidden charges.
We back our watches with a 3-Year international warranty. In the rare case of a malfunction or a movement defect, you can contact us and send your watch back free of charge and we’ll repair it for you within 1-2 weeks.
All our watches are assembled in-house at our headquarters in Biel-Bienne, Switzerland and meet the current, more strict Swiss Made requirement, which entered into force on January 2017. We don’t pride ourselves to producing every single component in-house, as the watch industry is composed of very specialized companies, that have been supplying their components for many decades. We are all about efficiency at FORMEX and produce the parts that we don’t make in-house at the best possible supplier. Our watches all come together at our headquarters in Biel, Switzerland, where every single piece is meticulously assembled and undergoes a variety of quality and functionality controls, before making it to your wrist.
